Art is a Transforming Experience

Here in the south it is already too hot for plein air painting - for me at least. Nevertheless, I recently rendered the above painting quickly one afternoon when I saw the glow of late afternoon light spreading across the yard.
I'm drawn to dramatic lighting perhaps because I'm always looking for the spiritual and philosophical significance in everything. Art offers us a way of conceptualizing meaning in our lives. Life is not always rosy and lately I have been very aware of the difficulties that can come our way. After I finished this painting, I wondered if it was a symbolic reminder that no matter what we are facing, we always have the choice to live in joy. Out of the dark shadows one can see the radiant light on the other side.
Artist Pamela Timmons expressed: My love for life, despite the strife, is expressed through my art. I believe my art is an open window. I attempt to let go of the known, accept the unknown, and find my strength in the deepness of life, love, and mystery. I discover my true nature by loving life, affirming the positive, releasing the negative, and expressing that harmony in my composition.
For the artist and for the viewer, art allows us to open our perceptions about life and becomes an adventure of discovery within.
